About this Trip

Girona is a city located in the northeastern part of Catalonia, Spain. It is located around 100 kilometers (62 miles) north of Barcelona and serves as the provincial capital of Girona. Girona is renowned for its picturesque old town, well-preserved medieval architecture, and cultural legacy. It has a long history that dates back to the Roman Empire. The Onyar River divides the city, adding to its beautiful splendor. The colorful row of homes that border the riverbanks in Girona is one of the city's most recognizable features. The "Hanging Houses" or "Les Cases de l'Onyar," as these structures are often called, make for a remarkable scene that is frequently captured in photos and postcards.

After taking the high speed train from Barcelona, you will meet your local guide from Girona to start exploring The "Barri Vell", or old town, of Girona, that is a labyrinth of winding alleyways, old walls, and attractive plazas. Moving on you will visit the Girona Cathedral (Catedral de Girona), which combines Romanesque and Gothic architectural elements ( also seen on "The Game of Thrones" ) . The "Great Staircase" or "Escalonia", the cathedral's grand stairway, is a notable aspect. Another interesting neighborhood to check out is the Jewish Quarter (Call Jueu), which is renowned for its winding lanes and historical significance as one of the best-preserved Jewish quarters in Europe.

Along with a diverse selection of eateries, cafes, and tapas bars, Girona also boasts a thriving culinary culture. Traditional Catalan cuisine, like "pa amb tomàquet" (bread with tomato) and "crema catalana" (Catalan cream), is especially well-known in the city. This day trip will include a delicious traditional Catalan meal recommended by your guide during your lunch break.

A full day well spent, in one of Spain's culturally and naturally rich corners, while offering easy access to authentic gastronomy.
